I still remember the moment when I first walked down Ram Path in Ayodhya. The road was wide and clean. The air smelled of incense and fresh flowers. Every minutes someone would softly say “Jai Shri Ram” as they passed. I had read stories about the aarti at Ram Mandir. I almost thought it would be impossible to attend. Then a shopkeeper near my hotel. Said, “Pass hai na? Online karo, bahut aasan hai.”
He was right. It is easy. Only if you know the steps and do not panic. This guide covers how I booked my aarti pass. It tells you what documents to keep ready what the timings look like and a few mistakes that you can avoid.
What Is an Aarti Pass and Why Do You Need One?
The aarti at Ram Mandir is not like the general darshan queue. Only a limited number of devotees are allowed inside for each aarti. Entry is possible with a pass. That small group size makes the experience feel very personal. You are not pushed along in a crowd. You stand. You listen. You actually hear the bells and the chanting.
The pass itself is free. That surprised me because in famous places anything that sounds like a “special entry” has a price tag. Here the process is handled by the temple trust. You only need to book a slot and carry identification. If anyone on the road offers to sell you a pass please walk away. I will come back to this in the tips section.
Aarti Timings You Should Plan Around
There are three aartis during the day. The morning one is Shringar Aarti at 6:30 AM. The afternoon one is Bhog Aarti at 12:00 PM. The evening one is Sandhya Aarti at 7:30 PM. These are the timings I saw on the site and in recent travel guides. The temple can adjust them for festivals, seasons or special events. Before you finalise your travel plan check the timing on the official portal again.
If you ask me which one to pick I would say the morning Shringar Aarti. The town is quiet. The light is soft. You are usually fresher. The evening one has its charm but by then most people are tired from a full day of walking.
Step-by-Step: How to Book Your Ram Mandir Aarti Pass Online
Here is the process the way I did it in words.
Step 1: Open the Official Website
Go to the website of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra, which is srjbtkshetra.org. Please type this address carefully. Open it from a trusted source. There are lookalike websites and agent pages that use the temples name. Some of them charge money for something that’s actually free.
Step 2: Register or Log In With Your Mobile Number
You will need to create a profile using your number. An OTP is sent to your phone. After you enter the OTP your account is ready. Use a number you actually have with you in Ayodhya. Messages can arrive during the process. You do not want to be hunting for an old SIM card.
Step 3: Go to Your Profile and Choose Aarti Booking
Once you are logged in look for the option to book an aarti or darshan slot under your profile. The layout of the site changes from time to time. Do not worry if the button looks slightly different from what I describe. Just look for the aarti booking option.
Step 4: Select the Date and the Aarti
Pick the date you will be in Ayodhya. Choose which of the three aartis you want to attend. If your preferred slot shows, as full try another day or another aarti. Slots are limited. Popular weekends and festival days go quickly. If you have dates midweek is much easier.
Step 5: Add Devotee Details
Enter the name, age and ID details of every person who will attend. Make sure the spelling matches the ID you will carry. This is the step where most people make a typing mistake and then face a problem at the counter. Slow down here. Check twice.
Step 6: Confirm and Download Your Pass
After you submit the details you will receive a confirmation. Download the pass. Capture a clear screenshot and keep a printed copy if you can. Phone batteries fail at the moments and a paper copy has helped many travellers I met along the road.
Step 7: Collect or Verify the Pass at the Counter
Depending on the system you may need to collect or verify the pass at the counter near the temple before the aarti begins. I reached the counter early. The process took only a few minutes but I saw people arriving late who looked quite stressed. Plan to arrive before the slot, not just on time.
Documents You Should Carry
Keep a government photo ID for every person on the pass. Aadhaar, passport, voter ID or driving licence are the options but you should verify what is currently accepted on the official portal. Children may have rules so check that part before travelling with a family.
Also carry the pass in two forms, one on the phone and one printed along with the phone that has the OTP number. It may sound like much preparation until the moment you need it.
What Changed Recently With Darshan Booking
A update that is worth knowing. The temple trust has been improving the system for Sugam Darshan, which is the regular darshan pass and is different from the aarti pass. As of October 2026 devotees can apply for darshan passes up to 90 days in advance and the number of passes for general devotees per day has increased. This does not mean the aarti process has changed the way so always follow whatever the portal shows you for aarti specifically. I mention this because many people confuse the two and book the pass.
What to Expect on the Day
Arrive early. Dress simply and respectfully because this is a place of worship. Mobile phones, bags and other items are usually not allowed inside so leave them at the hotel or in the designated locker area. Security checks are thorough. They are done politely. I found the staff patient even when someone, in the line was confused about the process.
Inside, the experience is quiet and short, but it stays with you. When the aarti started, the whole room seemed to slow down. People closed their eyes, some had tears, and no one was in a hurry. I stood there for what felt like two minutes, though I think it was longer. After I came out, I sat on a step and had a small cup of tea from a roadside stall. It tasted better than I expected.
Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
The most common mistake is relying on the wrong website. Always check that you are on the official temple trust portal. The second is name mismatch, where the name on the pass is different from the ID. The third is arriving late and expecting the staff to make an exception. They usually cannot.
Another mistake is booking the aarti for the same day you arrive by a long train journey. Trains get delayed, and tired travellers miss slots. If you can, reach Ayodhya the day before and give yourself a calm morning.
Beware of Touts and Fake Pass Sellers
Just like in many pilgrimage towns, there are people near hotels, railway stations, and temple roads who say they can arrange a “special aarti pass” for a fee. Please avoid them. The official aarti pass is free through the trust, and anyone charging money is either a scam or selling something unofficial. A friendly local hotel owner told me the same thing, and he was very firm about it. If you are unsure, ask the hotel staff to help you with the official booking instead.
Where to Stay and How Long to Plan
Staying close to Ram Path or near the temple area makes early morning aartis far easier, because you can walk to the counter. There are hotels, dharamshalas, and homestays at different budgets. Book early during festivals like Ram Navami and Diwali, because rooms fill up months ahead.
Plan at least two days if you can. One day for the temple and the aarti, and another day for Hanuman Garhi, Saryu Ghat, and the smaller temples around the town. I regret rushing my first visit, and I would not do it that way again.

Here is the map so you can see where the temple is and plan your walking route.

Final Thoughts
Booking an aarti pass at Ram Mandir is simpler than most people think. Use the official website, register with your mobile number, pick your date and aarti, fill in the details carefully, and keep your ID and pass ready. Do not pay anyone for something that is free.
If you are planning this trip, my advice is to book as early as you can, arrive early on the day, and leave your phone behind for a little while. The experience is short, but it stays in the mind for a long time.
